Kazan   Leave a comment

This was our first time on a sleeper train and a great night’s sleep.  13 hours and 10 minutes later in our first city on the Tran Siberian Railway Adventure.  Kazan.  The name sounds like a magic word you’d use while waving a magic wand.  In reality it’s alittle  pleasant city.  It’s evident a lot of work’s already been carried out in the city ready Universiade in 2012.  And more is still being done.  The new blue and white mosque built in 2005 to replace the one Ivan the Terrible demolished 450 years ago (yea Russians don’t rush) is beautiful and really is the centre piece of Kazan’s Kremlin.  Check out the pictures below.  Kazan’s got a reputation for being a very forward thinking city.  It was the first in Russia to open a Tourist Information Centre.  There are plenty of new residential homes being built and they are truly wondrous in design.  Only a handful of Soviet Style concrete buildings exist, which helps enhance the feel of Kazan.

I even got Kerry to do a Russian womans photo pose…..
