May 2011 – 12 by 12   Leave a comment

The month our lives changed beyond all recognition. On the 1st May we left our home in Nottingham and drove to Jersey via Weymouth. We spent the next 2 weeks getting ready for the off. We completed the work on the Land Rover, packed our kit and had lots of lovely dinners courtesy of David’s mum. We left for France on 16th – the start of our European adventure. We had a 2 week whistle stop tour visiting Mont Saint-Michel and the Somme in France, Berlin and Dresden in Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, the Baltic’s and Finland. On the way we danced in a swimming pool, got disgracefully drunk in Riga and felt the horrors of Auschwitz.  We had our first experience of  Wild Camping and over landing in a Land Rover.

Sunsets, Modern Art and A Rude Statue – Finland   Leave a comment

It was some time ago we were in Finland…..Finally here are my pictures.  I captured some great sunsets, we visited a really odd modern art museum and stumbled across the odd rude statue.  We found Helsinki on the whole a dissappointing place.  Our first full day there was a public holiday.  In Britian that means all the tourist places are open and most of the shops.  In Helsinki it was like a ghost town.  Not even a cafe opened for breakfast till 11.00!  We were starving.  And it was freezing cold (not the breakfast the whether).

Finland   Leave a comment

After rapidly working up through Europe to we have spent 5 days in the beautiful country of Finland catching our breath.  It’s been remarkable to see the change in the look of people, especially from Estonia onwards.  More British looking people, if anything, and certainly more blond women! Funny though the Finnish people are markedly less friendly than the Estonians. We have wild camped almost night by beautiful lakes. We are now preparing for our boarder crossing into Russia on Monday (6th June). Not really sure what to expect there. Kerry and I are keen to do the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. We are really looking forward to that, which should be around the end of next week. Moscow will also see an emergency airlift of tech. My kindle broke in Estonia and Laptop battery as given up the ghost. Thank you David’s mum Norma for arranging DHL!  Goodbye Europe…hello Russia.
