The Great Ocean Road – Day 1   Leave a comment

Our final activity in Australia was hiring a car and driving the great ocean road which runs south of Melbourne along the south east coast of the country . We set off in our little rented Nissan Tiida very early in the morning. The plan to get to our booked bed & breakfast ready for bedtime. The scenery was spectacular with rugged cliffs, secluded beaches and far far reaching piers. Day one was mega windy and showery but didn’t damped our spirits. It was just like a summer day out in the UK . On our first day we visited the 12 Apostles rock formation, Lorne lighthouse and Apollo Bay. The reception we got at our B& B was fantastic and made even better still by our bed having an electric blanket.

First thoughts on Thailand   2 comments

One word…..MAD!  It’s just bonkers.  It’s like being back in Vietnam.  There are so many people.  So much happening, sights, sounds, smells, rain…just stuff going on.  It feels like we never visited Australia even after a couple of days back in South East Asia.  We had a great welcome from our friends David and Mandy who live in Bangkok, who put us up for a few nights.  And after a short bus ride to Cha Am, have had a great day today with Darren and Kirsty, friends from Nottingham.

Melbourne at night   1 comment

Melbourne looks stunning at night time. Everywhere you look is another great photo waiting to be taken.  My night time shoot coincided with a visit to Melbourne by Alana, our house mate in Townsville, Queensland, while we were doing our Divemaster training.  She was in town to see our very own legendary David Attenborough give a talk and the fabulous Regal Theatre.  It was great to catch up and show Alana some of Altona while she was staying with us.

Back to the shoot.  With a few shots taken with Alana with us, Kerry and I disappeared into the City, while Alana was at the show.  Now  I wish I had done this shoot in the summer when it was warmer.  Kerry and I were freezing.  It was also blowing a gale unfortunately making some of my images unusable (not noticed until I got home) until I tweaked my camera settings.

We managed to spot a possum while down near the river.  Being a Brit I just thought it was a cat at first until Alana put us right.
